Hands-on injury prevention

Across all injuries, New Zealand lost 20.8 million working days and an estimated $8.7 billion in economic output in 2025. The cost isn't just financial — it's your people.

The Real Cost of Workplace Strain

Watch: Why Prevention Matters

Workplace strain is predictable — and preventable. See how the S.A.F.E.L.Y. on SITE Programme protects your people and your bottom line.

Know the Risks

Most Common Workplace Strains

These are the strain patterns we see every day on site. Most are preventable with regular intervention — before they become injuries.

Where Strain Shows Up

Ordered by how often we see them on site, most common first. ACC records the lower back as the most commonly injured body area at work, at 16% of work injuries. ACC injury statistics

Lower Back

Heavy lifting, bending, prolonged standing

Shoulders

Overhead work, repetitive reaching, sustained postures

Neck

Screen work, forward head posture, driving

Wrists & Hands

Vibrating tools, gripping, repetitive motion

Knees

Kneeling, climbing, load-bearing on uneven ground

Top Causes

Repetitive Movement

Same motion, shift after shift — tendons and muscles break down before workers feel it

Poor Posture & Ergonomics

Sustained awkward positions cause cumulative strain that builds over weeks

Manual Handling & Lifting

Incorrect technique or excessive loads — the #1 cause of acute workplace injuries

Fatigue & Overwork

Tired muscles are slower to stabilise a joint, so fatigue late in a shift or a long roster is when strain most often takes hold

The S.A.F.E.L.Y. Difference

Why Businesses Choose Us

Big providers promise scale. We deliver results. Here's why growing businesses across Northland choose a dedicated practitioner over a corporate franchise.

Direct Practitioner — Not a Call Centre

You deal with your practitioner directly. No corporate layers, no handovers, no waiting on hold. The same experienced practitioner every visit, who knows your crew by name.

Corporate providers route you through call centres and rotate clinicians

On YOUR Site, On YOUR Schedule

We come to your workplace and fit around your shift patterns. Zero travel time for your workers, zero disruption to operations.

Others require workers to leave site and travel to clinics

One-on-One with Every Worker

Every team member gets individual assessment and hands-on treatment — not a group seminar or a pamphlet. Real prevention, real results.

Large providers often deliver group sessions with no individual attention

Ancient Healing, Modern Prevention

Rongoā Māori techniques refined over generations, combined with a structured injury prevention system backed by data and employer reporting.

Conventional providers use standard clinical approaches only

Larger Sites

Over about 60 physical workers, a single day will not cover the crew and the reporting does more work. We quote multi-day blocks for larger sites — tell us your headcount and we will scope it properly rather than stretching a day rate.

Reduce ACC Claims

Prevention is cheaper than compensation

The Real Numbers

What It Actually Costs — Side by Side

We publish our pricing because the numbers speak for themselves. Compare the real cost of prevention against the alternatives.

Your ACC Levy Is Not Fixed

Under ACC's Experience Rating programme, your Work levy moves with your claims history — and the swing is wider than most employers realise.

50%

Maximum levy discount

Off your Work levy, for a good claims record.

100%

Maximum levy loading

Added on, for a poor claims record.

$750

The claim threshold

Claims above this are counted against your rating.

ACC rates you on three things: days your crew is off work, claims costing more than $750, and fatal claims. Those first two are exactly what an on-site prevention programme exists to stop — which is why this is a safety spend that shows up on your levy invoice, not a wellbeing perk.

We don't promise your levy will drop. We promise your crew gets seen early, treated on site and tracked — so the conditions that feed a poor claims history are addressed before they take root.

Applies once you have paid three Work levy invoices. Assessed over a three-year window, weighted to the most recent years. Check your own ACC invoice for the rating you are currently carrying.

"Most workplace injuries don't happen in one moment — they build quietly, shift after shift. By the time a worker feels pain, the damage is already done. Prevention means finding strain before it finds your crew."

Rongoā Māori Healing

The tradition behind the programme

Individual Rongoā Māori sessions available by appointment in Whangārei. ACC-referred clients may be eligible for covered treatment.

Care that meets workers where they are

Rongoā Māori has been available through ACC as a rehabilitation service since 2020. In that time it has grown from a handful of clients to 12,345 kiritaki, and 41% of the people using it are not Māori.

ACC's own research finds Māori are more likely to experience a serious injury than non-Māori, but less likely to make a claim. A culturally safe approach doesn't just respect that — it removes a practical barrier to asking for help early. When a worker trusts the person in front of them, they talk. They report the niggle. They don't white-knuckle through a bad shift.

We pair traditional healing with modern musculoskeletal assessment and digital tracking. Whether a worker wants karakia and rongoā pani, or a hands-on soft-tissue assessment and an exercise plan, they get what they need — and your health and safety data stays complete either way.

We're not saying our way is better than physio. We're saying here's another door in, for the workers the conventional model leaves outside.

Mirimiri & Romiromi

Deep therapeutic bodywork — the same techniques that power our on-site sessions.

Rongoā Pani

Handcrafted plant-based balms, oils, and herbal tonics supporting natural healing.

Whitiwhiti Kōrero

Guided therapeutic conversation exploring emotional and physical wellbeing.

Karakia & Takutaku

Sacred spiritual practices for deep clearing, protection, and restoration.

Common Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

Each worker receives up to 25 minutes of one-on-one attention, including an initial body assessment, hands-on treatment using Rongoā Māori techniques, and a post-session evaluation. Sessions are designed to fit into break times or shift rotations with zero downtime.

No — that's the whole point. We come directly to your worksite and set up on-site. Workers don't need to travel to a clinic, book time off, or leave the job. We work around your operations.

We specialise in physically demanding industries — construction, forestry, healthcare, logistics, and manufacturing. Any workplace where your crew lifts, bends, kneels, or performs repetitive tasks benefits from on-site injury prevention.

S.A.F.E.L.Y. on SITE is a workplace wellness and injury prevention service using traditional Rongoā Māori techniques. It's not a replacement for medical treatment — it's a proactive system designed to catch strain before it becomes an injury, reducing the need for medical intervention in the first place.

Corporate providers typically deliver group seminars, rotate clinicians, and route you through call centres. With S.A.F.E.L.Y. on SITE, you get one dedicated practitioner with 26+ years of experience who knows your crew by name, provides individual hands-on treatment, and delivers detailed employer reports showing strain trends across your team.

After every session, you receive a comprehensive employer report showing where strain sits across your crew — which body areas, which roles, and how patterns change over time. This gives you data-driven H&S insights to make smarter decisions about workplace safety.

No. The Trial tier has zero commitment — try a single half or full day and see the results. Standard packages run on a 2–3 month basis, and the 3-Month Contract offers the best value with weekly visits. You choose what fits your team.

For the on-site workplace programme, sessions are paid by the employer as a business investment. However, treatment is delivered by an ACC-registered provider — individual Rongoā Māori healing sessions in Whangārei can be covered by ACC for qualifying injuries.

A full day comfortably covers about 12 to 14 people, and a half day about 6 to 7, at up to 25 minutes each. Smaller crews still work well — you simply get more time per person. Over about 60 physical workers, one day will not cover the crew and we would plan a run of visits. If you are not sure, ring and we will work out what fits your shift pattern.

Clint calls or emails you back to confirm the date, the crew size and where to set up. You will get written confirmation of the booking and the price before anything is charged. Nothing is locked in until you have agreed the details.

Whangārei is our home base (travel included). We cover all of Northland at $1.04/km travel, and can arrange visits further afield by arrangement. We're flexible — if your crew needs us, we'll get there.
